4th week

Long time no see...

Tulikin vähän pidempi tauko, pahoittelut! Näiden parin viikon aikana on hädin tuskin kotona tullut istuttua ja silloinkin vain läksyjä tehdessä. Jaan nämä viime viikkojen tapahtumat viikon osiin ettei tule kerralla liikaa asiaa. Ja tosiaan, jos ainainen kuulumisten lukeminen kyllästyttää, saa ehdottaa aiheita joista voisin kirjoittaa!

The break got longer than expected, apologies! During these couple of weeks I have barely been home and when I have, the time has gone for homeworks. I'm going to divide these weeks' events into parts so there's not too much stuff at once. Oh, and if you're bored with reading stuff only about my life, you are welcomed to suggest subjects I could write about!

Ensimmäisenä siis Japanin 4. viikkoni. Alkuviikko maanantaista (10.10) lähtien kului koulun parissa suurimmaksi osaksi. Torstaina 13.10. käytiin kuitenkin porukalla syömässä miesten asuntolan (Kita8 East) lähellä olevassa yakitori-paikassa. Tähän mennessä kyllä parhaimmat yakitorit!

First up my 4th week in Japan. The beginning of the week from Monday 10th went mostly with school, but on Thursday 13th we had a dinner in yakitori place near men's dorm (Kita8 East) with group of friends. So far these yakitoris have been the best!

Perjantai oli rento päivä, hengailua ja syöntiä koulussa ja illemmalla leffailta parin asuntolan tytön kanssa. :--3
Friday was a chill day, hanging out and eating at university and later in the evening had a movie night with couple of girls from our dorm. :--3

Lauantaipäivä kului suurimmaksi osaksi ulkona. Lounas syötiin taivaallisessa naisvaltaisessa ravintolassa (koko henkilökunta koostui naisista eikä miehiä näkynyt kuin naisseurassa). Söin juustoisen dorian, jossa oli hampurilaispihvi, riisiä ja kasviksia sekä mansikka-suklaa pannukakun kermavaahdon kera. En tiedä paikan nimeä, mutta seuraavalla kerralla otan sen kyllä ylös!

Lounaan jälkeen vierailimme Hokudain kasvitieteellisessä puutarhassa.

Saturday went by mostly outside. Lunch was eaten in a heavenly delicious, woman-dominated restaurant (whole staff were women, and men were there with female company only). I ate a cheesy doria that had a hamburger steak, rice and vegetables and a strawberry-chocolate pancake with whipped cream. I don't know the name of the place but next time I will definitely write it down!

After lunch we visited Hokudai's Botanical Garden.

Sunnuntaina (16.10) oli asuntolan paloharjoitus, mutta sen aikana menimme tyttöporukalla testaamaan läheisen kahvilan. Tilasin kuuman kaakaon, suklaa-skonssin ja juustokakkupalan.

Käytiin kaupassa ja loppupäivä opiskeltiin porukalla ja kokattiin currya.

Yritän päivittää 5. viikon tapahtumat pian!

On Sunday (16.10) we had a fire drill in our dorm, but we went to check nearby café with a group of girls during it. I ordered hot chocolate, a chocolate scone and a piece of cheesecake.

After that we went to a grocery store and studied for the rest of the day. We also cooked curry for dinner together.

October so far

Hello~!

Taas kuulumisia kuluneelta lokakuulta. Koulun takia blogin päivitysvauhti hidastuu, pahoittelen.

Again news from the so far past October. Due to school the updating rate will slow down, sorry.

Lokakuun alussa aurinkoisena sunnuntaina vaelsimme porukalla Maruyama-vuorelle ja pääsin käyttämään uutta kameraani ensimmäistä kertaa (parempilaatuisia kuvia, jee!). Luonto oli todella kaunista ja näkymät hienot! Vuorelta alas tultuamme kävimme Hokkaido Shrine -temppelissä. Oli mahtavaa päästä vihdoinkin näkemään omin silmin japanilainen temppeli ainaisten kuvien sijaan.

On a sunny Sunday in the beginning of October we hiked to Mount Maruyama with a group of exchange students. I got to use my new camera for the first time (better quality pictures, yay!). The nature was so beautiful and views spectacular! After hiking down the mountain we visited Hokkaido Shrine. It was great to finally see a Japanese shrine with own eyes instead of always looking at the pictures.

Söimme vielä nopean illallisen ennen asuntoloihin paluuta. En sitten ikinä kyllästy tähän curry-ruokaan!

We ate a quick dinner before heading back to dorms. I'll never get bored with this curry food!

Maanantaina 3.10. oli avajaisseremonia, joka oli yllättävän lyhyt: parit puheet, professorien ja ryhmien esittely ja yhteiskuvat ja homma oli paketissa. Myöhemmin kävin kaupungilla shoppailemassa yksin ensimmäistä kertaa. Tunnen itseni avaruusolioksi kävellessäni yksin keskustassa ja siksi mielelläni kysyn aina seuraa keskustaan mennessäni.

Illalla sain vihdoinkin kuulla odottamani uutisen: pyöränavaimeni oli vihdoinkin löytynyt! Tosin tilanne oli jännittävä, sillä yhtäkkiä illalla huoneeni puhelin soi enkä tiennyt kuka siihen aikaan soittaisi. Se oli kuitenkin asuntolan manageri, joka kertoi avaimesta ja pääsin käyttämään hieman japania puhelimessa. :-P

On Monday 3.10. there was the Entrance Ceremony which was surprisingly short: couple speeches, introducing some professors and exchange groups, group photos and that was it. Later that day I went shopping alone for the first time. I usually ask company when I go to the centre because I feel like an alien if I'm walking there alone.

In the evening I finally heard the awaited news: my bicycle key was finally found! The situation hearing about it was exciting though; the phone in my room suddenly started ringing and I had no idea who would call me that late. It was the dorm's manager who told about the key and I got to use Japanese in the phone a bit. :-P

Tiistaina ja keskiviikkona oli kaaosta koulun kanssa. Ensin osa vaihtareista (minä mukaan lukien) kuulimme, ettemme pääsekään lukemaan japania tasokokeessa tapahtuneen virheen vuoksi ja siitä nousi kauhea haloo. Onneksi lopulta meidät kuitenkin ohjattiin jonkin tason tunneille. Omasta mielestäni jouduin liian helpolle tasolle sillä kävin 4. tason kieliopin tänä keväänä, mutta kertaushan on opintojen äiti. Lukkarikin meni hieman uusiksi mutta nyt kaiken pitäisi toimia ja voimme alkaa tutkailla Hokudain klubi- ja circle-tarjontaa.

On Tuesday and Wednesday there was a chaos with school. First some of the students (including me) heard that we didn't get any Japanese language courses due to some mistake in placement test. This caused a huge hullabaloo but fortunately in the end we were placed in some level courses. In my opinion I got too easy level because I studied level 4 grammar this spring, but repetition's never too bad. My school timetable changed too but now everything should be okay and we can start investigate Hokudai's club and circle activities.

Tällä annoksella oli hauska nimi: kiima-curry (キーマカレー)

This portion had a funny name in Finnish: kiima curry (means like on heat curry)

Keskiviikko-iltana menimme pienellä porukalla Sapporo Beer Garden:iin syömään Jingiskania (ジンギスカン jingisukan), yhtä Hokkaidon bravuureista. Oli kyllä herkullista, samoin kalja josta en yleensä edes pidä.

On Wednesday evening we went to Sapporo Beer Garden with a small group. We ate one of the Hokkaido's cuisines, Jingisukan (ジンギスカン) that is lamb barbecue. It was very delicious and so was the beer which I usually don't like.

Viikonloppu oli täynnä aktiviteetteja erilaisten tervetulias-juhlien muodossa. Paljon tuli tavattua uusia ihmisiä, niin paikallisia kuin muita vaihtareita. Uusia suomalaisnaamojakin näkee melkein joka päivä, meitä on niin paljon! Pääsin myös vihdoin laulamaan karaokessa lauluja lempiyhtyeiltäni mitä Suomessa en voisi koskaan tehdä.

Perjantaina sain hoidettua virallisia asioita pois alta ja lauantaiaamuna söimme brunssin muutaman asuntolamme tytön kanssa, tästä aiomme tehdä tavan aina silloin tällöin.

Weekend was full of activities in the various forms of welcome parties. I got to meet lots of new people, both local and other exchange students. I also see new Finnish faces almost every day, there's so many of us! I also got finally to sing songs from my favourite groups in karaoke which I could never do in Finland.

On Friday I got some official things done out of the way and Saturday morning we had a brunch with some girls of our dorm, we will definetely start doing this every now and then.

Sunnuntai-iltana (9.10) tavattiin muutaman suomalaisen ja parin japanilaisen vaihtarin kanssa izakayassa, oli pienempi ja perinteisempi izakaya kuin missä kävin pari viikkoa sitten. Mukavat jutustelut ja päästiin käymään toisen vaihtarin kämpässä, oli hauska nähdä japanilainen opiskelijakämppä.

On Sunday evening (9.10) we met with couple Finnish and Japanese students in izakaya. This one was smaller and more traditional than the one I visited couple of weeks ago. We had a nice chat and we got to visit the other Japanese stundet's flat. It was cool to see a Japanese student flat.
